Suudu Baaba Foundation’s Promoting Peaceful Co-existence and Education of Fulani Girls initiative addresses conflict between Fulani herdsmen and crop farmers while tackling early marriage and low educational attainment among Fulani girls.
Across Ashanti, Bono East, and Northern Regions, the programme mobilizes herdsmen for conflict-free grazing, engages traditional authorities on grazing lands, and raises awareness of the value of girls’ education. Training workshops, stakeholder dialogue, and community sensitization are designed to reduce conflict, secure land rights, and increase enrolment.
With support from STAR-Ghana Foundation through the Action for Voice and Inclusion Development project, the foundation reports that more than 900 Fulbe herdsmen have received sustainable-grazing and conflict-resolution skills. Sensitization reached more than 500 community members, Fulbe girls’ school enrolment increased by 25 percent, and three beneficiaries received tertiary scholarships. The work also initiated grazing-land demarcation, strengthened partnerships, and established local task forces for sustained peace.
